How's this for canine charm? This quirky and utterly delightful vintage lustreware planter features three pups in a row—two alert Scotties flanking one very unimpressed bulldog in the middle. With their expressive faces and glossy pearlescent glaze, this piece brings a whole lot of personality to your shelf, sideboard, or windowsill.
Made in Japan, likely circa 1940s–50s, this ceramic piece is an example of classic post-war export ware—lighthearted, whimsical, and designed to bring a smile. The iridescent finish gives it a soft rainbow sheen under light, while the form itself is full of nostalgic character.
Originally made as a small planter or perhaps a desk caddy for pens or trinkets, it now makes a fab statement piece. Tuck in a wee succulent, a bunch of dried flowers, or use it to corral bits and bobs like jewellery or keys.
There is a small chip to the rim (as shown), but it doesn't detract from the charm or usability of this collectible piece.
