A beautiful little piece of New Zealand history ✨ This vintage pedestal glass commemorates the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition of 1940 and features delicate hand-engraved inscription detailing around the rim, including the touching wording “To Thelma from son”.
Held in Wellington from 1939–1940, the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition celebrated 100 years since the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and became one of the country’s largest historical events of the era. Souvenir pieces like this were treasured keepsakes, often gifted between family members as meaningful mementos of the exhibition.
The warm amber-toned glass catches the light beautifully, while the faceted bowl and elegant pedestal base give it a refined Art Deco-inspired feel. The engraved script adds such lovely personal character — making this piece feel both historical and sentimental.
Perfect styled in a vintage cabinet, on a bar cart, or displayed amongst other New Zealand memorabilia and glassware collections. It could also be used as a charming dessert coupe, trinket holder, or candle display piece.
A special collector’s item that carries both New Zealand history and a personal story within its glass.
