A charming vintage dinner plate from Alfred Meakin of Staffordshire, England, in the Devonshire Road pattern. The scalloped edge frames a beautifully detailed countryside scene depicting a horse-drawn stagecoach on a country road, passing the King's Arms inn, with a mounted rider, hounds and rolling hills in the background. Touches of colour bring the scene to life, with a pink flowering hedge, a red coach roof and a blue sky above. The base notes this as a hand engraved pattern applied under the glaze in detergent and acid resisting colours, a mark of quality craftsmanship. A delightful piece for display on a plate stand or as part of an Alfred Meakin or English transferware collection.
